Midwife Meeting

2006-10-18 09:39:08 • by Leanne Verkley

We had our monthly meeting with our midwife last night and I found out that I have low blood pressure.  My blood pressure reading is 92 over 48.  The solution to keep from feeling faint is to drink more fluids and avoid standing for too long where possible.  Everything else seems very normal.

I am now 19 wks LMP or 17 wks gestation.
The baby is approx. 8.47 ounces or 240 grams.  To help you imagine the weight (think 240 paperclips) and is 6.02 inches or 15.3 cm long.
(According to www.pregnancy.org).

My stomach was measured for the first time last night and it was 19cm.  Apparently it usually coincides with how many weeks along you are.  So again...normal.

I love fetal heart dopplers!  This is a device that allows you to hear the baby's heart.  It is so fast (normal), and fun to listen to.

I can't wait to hold this little miracle!

Okay who weighed a paperclip to find THAT out!
How do they measure your stomach? 19cm thick or across or???
My friend had a midwife and loved the experience. Sounds like a good idea.

Ya, the midwifes are great.  Much less clinical.  I remember the stories Mom would tell about how the role of an OB nurse has changed in the last 30 years, and it sounds like these people have taken over that role.  You can get really natural and deliver at home and such, but we don't plan to.  The hospital is nice and close.

They measure the top of your belly on a verticle axis.

Yup, the hospital is only three minutes away!

Okay, so what was I supposed to do with all these paperclips again? ...

The hospital is much further away for me.. But I still think I will beat everyone else there (other than Leanne and Brian of course).
