Camping, Easton's first french fry, tooth #7, mama, Thomas the Tank Engine and Niagara Falls
The last 9 days were spent camping at Port Burwell with our friends Ryan, Jenny and their kids Owen and Spencer. We arrived late Friday night (1am) and set up our tent in the dark, transferred two kids into sleeping bags and went to sleep. In the morning Ryan and Jenny were quite surprised to see us as they didn't hear us at all.
(We told them it was likely we wouldn't be there until Saturday morning but then Friday we had a change of thought and began to see the advantages of driving while the kids were sleepy anyway). So after a McDonald's dinner (where Easton had his first french fry; which he loved), we were off!
The week was pretty low key with some early mornings, and some late mornings.
We went fishing twice but caught nothing. Hadley loved her Barbie light up fishing rod though.
Some nights were spent comforting Easton with the arrival of tooth number 7. I thought tooth 8 and 9 might also come but I checked today and still just white gums.
Throughout the week it was clear by Easton's cries that he wanted me but further to these distinct cries he began to say MAMA and used it specifically to call for me. This is his first word that he has used that wasn't just a sound that he could make but rather his first attempt at using English. This is very exciting.
We also took the kids to St. Thomas to see Thomas the Tank Engine. http://www.ecrm5700.org/dowt2011/main.html
There was a 25 minute ride with a full size Thomas the Tank Engine. We saw Sir Toppam Hat, there was story telling, Thomas jumping castles, crafts, a petting zoo, videos, and more.
Our friend Shawn joined us for one night and we enjoyed smores and good conversation.
We swam at the beach for a few of the days, hiked and took in some park shows about bats, and owls etc.
On the way home we took a drive on the north shore of Lake Erie and stopped to have dinner in Niagara Falls.
We got home late but made the most of our vacation.
Good times!
