Ontario Strawberries

Ontario strawberries are SO good!  There is such a short window to get them and I managed to get them at the perfect time this year.
I first went out and bought two flats from MacMillan's.  It was $33 and really was a good deal.  Two days earlier it was about $5 dollars more.
I was so excited to taste the yummy berries!
I froze some and then began the jammin' process.  I tried the cooked jam this time.  While I haven't yet tasted the jam it looked and smelled awesome!
With all the strawberries all over the place we decided that we should actually take Hadley out and show her where strawberries come from.  So we found a local farm and took the kids out to pick strawberries.
(Well, Brian and Hadley did the picking as I held Easton because babies under a year are not supposed to have strawberries as they are a potential high allergen food).
It was so much fun to watch her explore the patches and look for the biggest, most red, juiciest strawberry... and then have a taste!  Her face was red all over from the strawberry goodness!
The price was more expensive than at MacMillan's where they picked it for you.  It was $22 for the same flat which was $16.50 at MacMillan's.  However, the experience of it was worth the few extra dollars and the time and energy to get them.
Tonight for dinner Brian was inspired to make a three course meal using strawberries in each course.
The appetizer was a lettuce salad (Hadley's home grown lettuce) with berries on top.  Her lettuce tasted awesome!  Then the main course of rice, chicken and a strawberry sauce that Brian found on the internet; followed by cake, ice-cream and berries.

We have a small patch in our back yard and earlier today I found Hadley eating up most of the patch.
It seems she has the same love of strawberries that we do!
Yum!
