Grandview Update
Hadley and I went to meet up with Jessica yesterday to do a re-assessment of her speech and language. They had no major concerns.
They did however mention that in the next 6 months we should work on her adding sounds to words.
Like adding the S and Z sounds. For example at the end of nose. Currently she says "no".
Another sound that she has is the SH for shoes, but if this SH sound is at the end of a word like brush, she just says "bra".
More sounds to work on are TH (like in her cabbage patch kids name Martha it comes out as MARTA), words that start with F she usually substitutes with a P sounds like PINGERS for fingers. The K at the end of words like MILK is MAK. So while it is there, the word isn't right. The last sound to work on is the JUH sounds.
Like Orange. She says Oran for Orange. When she adds the G sound at the end it is very enunciated.
So while there are things to work on, nothing stood out to be crazy out of line for her age.
Cute words that she has at the moment are:
FOON - Spoon * no concern as the SP is apparently a difficult sound connection.
PORNER - Corner, PAR - Car * these are just a habit as she can say the hard c sound for other words.
INTERDING - Interesting * This is a four syllable word so it should come with practice.
BANA - Banana * She has all the sounds for this but it is common for words with a duplicate sound like na na for the second sound to be omitted. However we should work on this with her.
LELLO - Yellow * This is normal for her age group.
ALMOAT - Almost * With practice over the next 6 months she should get this one.
I am sure there are other words that she has that are cute to be noted but that is what I can think of right now.
So, for now there is a seminar that I am hoping to attend in June to keep up on new strategies help her continue to learn but other than that, we just wait for the next assessment which will likely be in 6 months.
