Grandview
When Hadley was 18 months old her speech was not quite at the same level as that of her peers. So I looked into getting her on the nine month waiting list at Grandview to have her assessed.
I figured if she caught up, I wouldn't worry, but at least she was on the waiting list.
At the end of June her name came up so we went to the appointment to have them assess her.
They showed her flash cards and asked her to identify things, they played with bubbles, dolls, and other toys to see how she played and communicated with them.
After the hour long visit it was determined that she mostly spoke in one word sentences and didn't finish words. So to work on this we were instructed to add one word to whatever she said and repeat words back to her in the correct manner if she didn't finish them. For example she says MIL for milk.
In the last week she has blossomed to A LOT of two and three word sentences making her exactly where she should be. YAY!
However, because we went to the assessment we are now able to attend a five week course that gives us different things to work on to continue to build her vocabulary. So we are signed up for that over the summer.
The other thing that should be noted is that she is advanced in her play skills. (Closer to that of a three year old). She understands how stuffed animals and dolls can pretend to do things that we can do.
I am so glad that she is where she should be. :)
