Ajax Fire Station Head Quarters
This morning Patti, Alicia, Hadley and I headed to the brand new Ajax Fire Station Head Quarters. (North on Salem). The tour was arranged for by the Ontario Early Years Centre.
We arrived at 9:30 am and were greeted by the firemen (each shift does have one girl on it, except the shift that was on today).
We were able to see the trucks and get in them but I think the sirens and lights made Hadley a little nervous as she decided it would be best to just stay outside of the trucks.
Sparky came out to hug and greet the kids but this only added to her apprehension.
Things seemed to turn around when the kids were given fire hats and we moved into the dispatch room with all the computers and phones. (This is where the 911 calls are sent).
Candy in the kitchen also helped to make for happy little ones. :)
They had a beautiful kitchen with an attached living room with a plazma TV and lazy boys for each of the fire fighters.
We saw their murphy beds (the night shift is allowed to sleep anytime after 10 pm on their shift but they say it usually isn't worth it to sleep).
We found out that Ajax has approx. 10 call outs each day.
The firemen seemed to love their jobs mostly for the excitement factor. They were very friendly and the kids all got colouring books before leaving.
We had a small snack picnic on the front lawn before heading home.
I went to play baseball tonight but Brian said that Hadley wanted to go to sleep with her fire hat on. I imagine that would have been a little tricky. :)
