12 Inches later I have short hair
I have been wanting a hair cut for a long time and really didn't know what I wanted other than a lot off.
It was heavy and put back most of the time.
So I finally decided that I would get enough off to donate to http://www.locksoflove.org/ so that some child with cancer could have a real hair wig.
A quote from their website:
Children under 6 years receive synthetic hairpieces because this age group experiences rapid growth in the size of their head. Children ages 6-18 with long term hair loss receive custom, vacuum-fit hair prosthetics.
I figured if I was thinking 8 inches than 10 wouldn't be that much more.
However, after I got home I thought...wow this is short.
It will take some getting used to but it is for a good cause.
I measured the braid today just to be sure I met the requirements and found out that the hairdresser actually cut off 12 inches even though she measured it THREE times. Oh well.
It is probably the shortest I have ever cut it and the pony tail is so small.
Anyway, it feels light and healthy.
