Blue Jays Home Opener

2009-04-07 00:19:33 • by Leanne Verkley

Tonight Brian, Hadley and I met up with Shawn K, Shawn B, Delena, Adam, Krista and my brother Joe to head to the Blue Jays game.
There is nothing quite like the home opener.  I mean since the early 1990's.
We met outside the dome and enjoyed some street meat!
The dome was nearly at capacity with 48 027 people in attendance.  It was so nice to have it in the dome as it was a surprisingly cold snowy/slushy day.
(So much so that Listowel got about 15-20 cm of snow ~ resulting in school closures.  5 more cm expected tonight ).  It certainly didn't feel like baseball weather that is for sure.
We had 5 seats in one row and 4 in the next which made it possible to talk with pretty much anyone.
Our section 534 in the top level was very rowdy and entertaining.
Hadley seemed to be having a great time with her little hand claps and cheers.  She also had huge smiles on her face for most of the game.
I think everyone was impressed at how well she did to make it through 9 innings.  The girl beside me even commented on how well behaved she was.
While she watched the game for the most part, she did have some other things to keep her occupied like food, stickers and such.
The Jays won 12-5 but in the eighth inning we weren't sure if they were going to have to forfeit due to fans throwing things on the field.  They suggested that if it didn't stop, this is what would happen.  The Detroit team just left the field and we had to wait and see if they would come back on to play.  I have never seen this happen.
They did come back though and the Jays got their win.
