Winterfest

Today Brian, Hadley and I went to Ajax's Winterfest.  A free event put on by the town at the McLean Community Centre.
We saw professional ice sculpting that was well done, there was an outdoor ice-rink, and a live DJ.
There were horsedrawn wagon rides that looked pretty cool as well as dogsled rides but they had a nominal fee and long lines.
While we watched the horses and dogs for a little bit, we didn't go for a ride. (I thought it was pretty weak that a lot of the dogs were not even husky's but still I think the kids that went for rides were having fun and Hadley loves dogs so watching them was very entertaining for her).
The bouncy castles looked like a lot of fun but they were full of big kids so for this year we opted to watch and then walk on.  There were opportunities to try snow shoeing which again we saw but didn't participate in.
There was a Frosty Cafe that had hotdogs and the like that seemed decent.  However, we brought our lunch and had a warm car picnic at lunch time.
It was a nice day but the wind made it very cold so it was nice to be able to eat out of the wind.
Inside the centre they had free hot chocolate, face painting, temporary tattoos, and children's art and crafts which were very popular.

Perhaps it was just that Hadley is still little and most of the events were hard to have her participate in, but somehow, it still seemed like there was missed opportunity.  Perhaps there could have been fort or snowman building areas or snow baseball, or soccer or maybe raffles.  I am not really sure what I felt was missing but it seemed like something was missing.
In any case, the price was right and it was nice to be outdoors with my family.
