We're Back

We're home from our two week wonderful vacation out east.  Everything went well, pics and story to come... eventually.

We might have had some up today, only upon return home, my computer's USB ports seem to be non functional.  They power any USB device, but under Windows or Linux the end device is not detected.

I had to dig though my cupboards to find an old ps2 style keyboard and mouse, so I am up and running, but of course the flash card readers are USB....

Not sure if I should treat the Motherboard as defective and replace it, or just buy a PCI USB controller card. Any thoughts?

Welcome back!  Great to hear you had a good time.

Do you know there is a USB header on the MB for external USB ports?  Do they work?  Maybe upgrade the BIOS for kicks?

I'd say either spring for new MB/CPU/RAM, or just get a USB controller card.  Just getting a new motherboard means getting an out-of-date one, and there are tons of MB/CPU/RAM deals out there at the usual places.  Heck, you're lucky to have a Canada Computers up the street... :)

Asus has 3 year warranty on their motherboards.  but I'd have to take it out of my computer and ship it to Indiana, then wait 10 business days for them to ship one back.  And I have to pay for the shipping to them.

I think I'll buy a PCI USB controller.
