the beard is still on

it has been a month now.  well, i can't say i've been bearded for a month.  I haven't shaved in a month though.

and now the question is, how long will it last.  I'm not really sure.  I think i've decided that i'm not a beard guy though.  It is not that i miss shaving, certainly, but, well, i now have this buffer around my face, you see.  Like, i remember the feeling of laying down on a soft, slightly cool pillow. Now, it is slightly cool... on my nose.  Not the same at all.

So, shave it off then, you say.  Well not quite yet.

I might as well find out what it is like to have a beard, since it is unlikely i would go a month of beard growing just to find this out some time in the future. (besides, it would be grey then anyway).

Time for an analogy.  Let's use swimming.
Many times i've had some scruffyness.  This is like dipping your toe in before swimming.  Sure, you know what the water is like, but you can't say you have been swimming.  You can't say you know what it is like.  And besides, when you jump in, the water rarely feels the same.  Dipping your toe is hardly like swimming.  Scruffy is not bearded.

Now that i can say i officially have a beard (you can't see skin through most of it) i am fully in the pool.  But jumping in and jumping back out is hardly swimming either.

But how long must you splash around successfully before you can be said to have swam?  I'm not sure.  I haven't decided yet.

I highly doubt i'll be beard trimming though, so odds are i'll look more like an elf than Santa at Christmas.

Interesting... I cant say i can relate to any of this personally considering i would never want to grow a beard, regardless of my capability on the matter which i hope is nil. But i found your account and metaphor/analogy quite amusing to say the least lol

Some times dipping your toe in can be more enjoyable then accually swimming. No?

Brian, you put WAY too much thought into groing a beard. I've done the beard thing back in college, I think you should defenitly try it for a month or so, but I'm sure you'll shave it off in the end. Have fun with it. Remember the Cheers episode when then tested how much beer you can hold in a beard? :)

Don't listen to them Brian. Beards are the way to go. Or if you get board, you could shave it all but the moustache and look 10 years older... Think of the posibilities!
