The LONG weekend

This was our first May 2-4 long weekend with Hadley.  Of course it was a busy one.

Friday night after getting Hadley to bed, we started getting things ready to take with us on our weekend adventure.

Saturday morning after waking up we spent two hours getting everything done before we were in the car heading for the St. Jacobs market.  We got there and it was a total zoo.  So we only looked around for a short while, picking up apples, summer sausage and lunch. From there we crashed the church wedding portion of Brian's moms cousin Gerry.  It was one of the last weddings at Hesson before the church is being sold.
We visited with family for only a short while and then Brian, Julie, Hadley and I headed to Brian's uncle Paul's house where he was having his annual May long weekend gathering.  We were surprised to meet up with so may people we knew.  Just as they were bbq-ing some gorgeous steaks we had to be on our way as we were expected at the Cole cottage for dinner.

En route, we made a quick stop at my dads to see the new stone work on his house.  (It looks great)!

We arrived at the cottage just in time for a nice dinner.
That night Hadley slept quite well.  In fact not one person said they even heard her through the night.  She was just up to feed and be changed with a short cuddle period and then back to bed.

Sunday, unlike Saturday was really cold so we spent much of the day indoors with magazines, snacks, and karaoke etc.  However, we did get Hadley to feel Lake Ontario and then back inside to warm up.  Again she slept well.

Over the weekend it became very apparent that Hadley knows who I am as she was playing strange with others that would hold her.  I think this is unusual for someone so little, but it was definitely apparent as she would be calmed as soon as I was near.

Monday the weather turned for the better and we soaked up as much sunshine as we could before heading out around 4:30pm.  We stopped in Listowel for two quick visits.  One with my dad and brother, and the other with Brian's mom.  It seems we can never stay long enough anywhere we go.  We got home quite late, but were happy with our outing.

On Tuesday we had a full day again with Hadley's first doctors appointment which included weighing in at 10 lbs 11 oz. up from 9 lbs 14 oz.  Then her head was measured and is now 39.5cm.  Up from 36cm.  Her length 61cm up from 55cm.  All of these were changes from the beginning of May when she had her last midwife appointment.

The appointment ended with her being so brave taking two needles, one in each thigh.  These shots included the first round of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio IVP, Haemophilus influenza type B, and pneumo conjugate.  She was not happy about this but was a trooper with only a mild fever of 37.6 degrees celcius.  It was awful to see her in such pain but she fought it off with sleep as her main form of defense.  We held her while she slept to try to curb as much in sleep kicking as we could as this is what seemed to hurt her the most.  We also thought it was important to feed her a little more often then normal to keep her hydrated.  Her cheeks were flushed and her left leg was a little red but it all seems to be mostly back to normal today, less than 24 hours later.
