The soother

This little miraculous invention has finally found its place with Hadley.  Up until this week she didn't want it and we never pushed it.  However, this week more than ever she has begun to suck on her fists.  So, only when she does this do we  substitute this little device to help with her sucking / soothing need.  It also calms her when she is really crying and we have fed, changed and burped her.  I guess she just needs a way to sooth herself.  I don't mind as long as she doesn't need it all the time.

Soothers are great, but like you said, all the time would be bad.  Sometimes they're just great for calming them, when sad or angry.

You'll that they need it less and less when they are busy exploring their environment though, and almost ween themselves (at least that is our experience).  But it will still be handy for preventing them from putting things in their mouths they shouldn't. :)
