February 2025
In February there are many birthdays to celebrate, Brian's mom, my brother, Brian's, and a few others of course with uncles and extended friends.
What's up lately...Hadley is getting into watching the Grammys and I am happy to enjoy new things with her. We do still watch The Voice weekly and I love that we have that time set aside for the two of us.
Easton now has guitar as one of his classes for school as well as doing his weekly lessons with Justin and we finally see him just picking up the guitar and playing for us. I love his confidence with the instrument.
Hockey keeps us quite busy, and I love being a hockey mom. Both kids are in level six for swimming lessons which we are doing weekly.
I have tried to make time to go see a few friends for lunch, tea and walks. This month I have met up with Patti, Margo and Melissa.
Brian was in Atlanta for work for a week, and NYC for another week, so he has been busy as well.
I helped out at the kids' old elementary school for a skating day and a second day helping with pancake day. It felt good to see everyone and also a little sad as their secretary Margaret had passed recently, and she was so lovely. We made something like 1300 pancakes and a big mess, but it was a good day!
We had course selections for next year with Easton and it was weird not to be doing that for Hadley but this year has been a whole year of prep for next year for her. I am so excited and nervous and excited for her, and all the mom feels for me and my own emotions, but I will keep them tucked for a little while longer as I encourage and build on the excitement for her.
Easton attended his first ever Ontario Youth Parliament weekend with his friend Robin and I am pretty sure it changed his life. He made so many new friends in just a few days. He took a bus with Robin who came from Ottawa and met him in Whitby, where they drove to Kitchener for the weekend. They got to stay in a hotel, and bus back and forth to a church where they did activities throughout the day. They had sittings, caucus, vespers, joke bills where he represented Monopoly, vs. the other side with Clue, they had a banquet and dance, and board games, among other fun activities. I knew he was going to have a great time, my only concern was that we were having the winter storm of the decade and well, I am a mom and I worried about ALL travel. Now... I am here to say, all went well and it is safe to say he wants to go back next year.
Hadley and I went to check out the Gowns for Grads event at the library and she found a lovely dress that she wore to her semi formal and another one that MAY be her Senior Soiree (Prom) dress, but she wants to look around a little more just to be sure. They had so many dresses and not that many people coming so they actually let her take a third dress just because she liked it. I like thrifting for things like this as you only usually wear the dress for a few hours.
This was Easton's first semi formal and Hadley's last. It was so fun to see them both dressed up together and off to the school dance.
For Brian's birthday we went out for dinner at a restaurant in Whitby called The Villa. I had been there once before but I think Hadley was maybe 2, and I went with the mommy group. It was so fun, they had teppanyaki style and both kids loved it as much as Brian and I did. We may go back soon. We came home and enjoyed some cake as well.
All in all another busy month.
