Snow Storm 2022!
The great snow storm of 2022. On Sunday, I went out and took a photo of our yard. I could see a dusting of snow and grass. Mostly grass. However, a huge blizzard warning was in effect for the next 24 hours for the entire Golden Horseshoe and into Eastern Ontario along Lake Ontario. There were guesses of about 40 cm, and 60 KM winds. With warnings to stay home unless absolutely necessary for the following day.
Well, they were right about the snow dumping but they were low on how much! In our backyard we measured 42 cm and on the deepest spot around 77 cm. Walking in one spot I sunk to my hips. That was fun!
Schools were closed, but with Easton still in virtual with only one dose of the vaccine, his day remained unchanged. Log in, like a regular day.
Hadley, being vaccinated, normally attends in person, so with the past few weeks being virtual anyway due to Covid cases of Omicron rising, they just kept up with an additional day of virtual learning.
This was to be the day that Ontario kids went back after the holiday break to in person learning, if they were enrolled that way, but secretly, I am glad for the extra time at home.
Throughout the day we read stories about the 401 being stopped between Toronto and Napanee, and the police made a very rare decision to close the DVP and Gardiner. Also, 40% of the TTC buses were stuck on streets in Toronto.
So, what did we do after virtual school... go outside of course and enjoy all that a large dumping of snow has to offer. After about an hour of snow tubing and play we came inside as the wind did make it quite cold. Luckily I had dinner hot and ready in the crock pot.
Today is Tuesday... both kids are still virtually learning as clean up is still happening and buses are not running and schools are still closed. We had a snow plow finally come to our road this morning. (Luckily we have a neighbour with a tractor who plowed our lane yesterday and a small path all the way down to the main road... However, that wouldn't have mattered since he let us know that when he got to the main roads, none of them were plowed so emergency vehicles couldn't have gotten to us yesterday even if they wanted to.
It is currently -11 and sunny. Hoping to do some more outdoor play with the kids today. My inner Canadian child loves this!
