1900's
This past weekend we did a staycation in the 1900's.
It is amazing how dependent we are on our electronic devices. I wake up, and the time is on my phone. I check the temperature through Alexa, same with turning on the music. Almost immediately we are in tune to check email, facebook, twitter news and other such things on our devices. But today... We tried for little to no electronics. We gave our self permission to take digital photos of the day and use hot water for showers and dishes. However, we did wash the dishes by hand and since I have been washing the clothes by hand for the past three weeks thanks to a broken washing machine and back order due to Covid, I gave myself a pass on laundry and just skipped it.
The kids were more eager to spend time outside. I just hung out with Hadley and got caught up while taking in some vitamin D on the picnic table. We then played baseball with Easton and spent two hours more hours taking down the outdoor skating rink. I think we were outside for about four hours. It was a lovely day. Plus 12C. The first day of spring, and the first day with really nice weather. I actually got a small sunburn.
We made Eggs in prison for breakfast which was just matchstick potatoes with Egg on top cooked in the oven. Oh ya, we gave ourselves permission to use the oven in lieu of a wood stove. Lunch was fresh bread with roast beef for anyone that was hungry. Dinner was Steak, mashed potatoes and green beans that the kids helped break the ends off on the front porch. Chess was played, Yo-Yo's were practiced and played with for days afterwards, dinner was by lamp light and Apple Brown Betty finished off the night with a sweet note.
