Hockey Night
The other day Leanne and I were discussing how lucky we were to get tickets to the Leafs games over the years and how that would likely end during her maternity leave. We likely won't be going to see a lot of sports games with a few month old. Nope, we had seen our last live Leafs action for a while.
A day or so later Leanne came home with two tickets to last night's Leafs-Habs game. 3rd row Platinum with lounge. As it turns out, it was only called the 3rd row, because the Leafs coaches were in the 2nd, and the players were rinkside.
I mean talk about the best game experience you can get. The lounge served us beer and hot food before the game, then delivered beer and popcorn and ice cream to our seats whenever there was a stoppage in play. And when we were lamenting the fact that we didn't bring our camera, our hostess lent us her digital to take a few photos, promising to e-mail them to us later.
It was really interesting to see the players come off he ice, the look on their faces, and how they acted on the bench. Some guys like Sundin and McCabe never took their eyes off the play, while others stretched injured joints, or hung their head in exhaustion.
You get a different impression of how fast the game is too. The defenceman playing the far side sprints the width of the ice after jumping over the boards, regardless of where the play is. It is imperative he gets over there quickly as it doesn't take them long to move the puck up ice. When you are level with the players, you can also see how if three line up along the blue line, there is nowhere to skate between them with their outstretched sticks.
To top it all off, the Leafs clobbered the Habs 4-1, to the delight of 70% of the crowd. It was an amazing time and one I won't soon forget.
