Starwars Weekend

This past weeked was an incredible weekend of all 6 movies.  Or the watching of the whole movie depending on how you look at it.

Friday after work I picked up Leahanne and Patrick (Brian's cousin's) from the train station in Toronto and we headed to Ajax by GO train.  We met Brian and went out for dinner.  Among other things we discussed our plan of attack for the upcoming marathon weekend.  We started watching episode 1 right after we got home and then after talking for a little bit, we went to bed.  At this point Brian and I thought they liked what they saw but we were still a little unsure.  Leahanne and Patrick who had never seen any of the Starwars movies were our guinea pigs on watching 1-6 in order as Lucas would have wanted it to be seen should he have had the money to make all the movies so many years ago.  They now had a taste of what was to come and we think they were eager to watch more even after meeting Jar Jar.

Saturday started with a healthy breakfast of lucky charms, and then right into episode 2.  They seemed pretty happy with it, but a lunch break was in order after this movie.  We went back and watched the third episode and then thought it might be good to get outside for a little while.  Their hero up to this point, Anakin Skywalker was now on the dark side.  It was time to walk away for a bit to take it all in.  So we went for a walk through the paths behind our house out to Lake Ontario.  Singing and talking all the while.

After our walk, we were now ready to tackle the first of the oldies.  Episode 4.  It was fun to watch things being revealed to these Rookie Starwars watchers.  We took turns at the beginning of each movie to read the prologue.  In episodes 1-3 it was clean and easy to read.  In episodes 4-6 the font was blury.

After a good portion into episode 5, I could see why Leahanne and Patrick enjoyed the first three movies better.  The quality of production was much higher.  But they have to remember in 1977 George Lucas was a head of the rest of the galaxy in movie production.  So I guess it just has to do with what you can compare against.

Episode 6 was my favorite growing up because it had the Ewoks.  They are so cute and furry. Now I don't know which one is my favorite.  They are all bluring into one movie.  My favorite characters though are C3P0, R2D2 and Yoda.

We finished the last movie on Sunday morning.  I can't believe we did it!  It was a full weekend.  And I mean that from every point of view.  Munchies to movies.  I am glad that throughout the weekend, we even managed to take some breaks to play a few card games of dutch blitz.  After having lunch we we played one last game and then headed to downtown Toronto to take them back to the train station.  We were slowed up by the Santa Claus Parade, but made it on time and enroute we managed to point out a few Toronto landmarks.  I had a great time and am glad to have had the experience of watching all 6 in order for the first time!  It may be a while before I do that again though.

I still deny these new three any existence. They sacrifice plot for production in my eyes.
