Gezina - My grandma too

Yesterday's news hurt!  Brian's grandma went on to be with the Lord.

Last week we got word that she had to have surgery to fix her intestines which were giving her trouble.  The surgery went fantastically so I hear, but the recovery for her body was just too much.

This amazing lady was a true inspiration to me.  From showing me how to love your husband and family to how to treat others as though they were your family.  She was always happy and looked for the bright side of life.

Over the past 10 years I truly feel that I gained another grandma.  From day one there was never a moment that I didn't feel included as an honourary Verkley.

I have been privileged enough to take two trips to Holland and meet up with some of the people who have the same view of this amazing woman.

Today for lunch, Brian and I had mousie sandwhiches.  I kept thinking though that there was something missing.  Grandma's soup, a lot of gouda, and the people that are brought together by those simple dutch meals.

I am now 5 months pregnant and I pray that my baby will see pieces of her in all the family as I do.

We miss you grandma.

She was 84 and still 250+ people came to celebrate her life.  That should tell you how increadibly special she was.

Of course people had their sad moments, but through it all (the people, the meals, the thoughts, songs, prayers and the formalities) I found that the Verkley's sure do know how to focus on what is good. It was truly a life celebration.  It was a day that I think she would have been proud of complete with gouda sandwiches.

I bet Mom has the whole week on re-play...she would have loved every word, song, hug, kiss and tear...she was the centre of the family that drew everyone together in such a loving way every day I knew her..36 years. She will be truly missed but she was so perfectly honored by all her family and friends this week..the flowers, the grandchildren, sons and daughters and inlaws, friends..may we all love like she taught us and may we all LIVE every day of our life like she did loving and treasuring each new face, each new day like she did.  Miss you forever Mom and THANKS for SO MUCH!
